“The tongue and the dick have no bones” – Suengsahn Sunim
Suengsahn, a master of language and Zen teachings, told this to my father when he took him to Korea in the early 90’s. He meant that the two places a man gets in the most trouble are the parts of the body that have no true strength to them. These words and many other teachings changed my father’s life. He became a Monk in the early 90’s, spent over 20 years in Korea and is still practicing today at a temple in upstate New York.
This collection of short stories written by me and my father are part of a feature film about the five decade long friendship between Suengsahn and Daeseong Sunim (my father), called WAITING ON A FRIEND.
The photography is a mix of mine and an archive of the many monks and family members throughout my fathers life.
